(36,7KB) Version 0.2 (12/31/06) - Walkthrough updated, side-quests updated, fixed a quick search mistake. (41,2KB) ============================================================================== Introduction [NW.02.01] ============================================================================== Taken from the official manual: "IMPORTANT: This is your CD key. Do not lose it or you will be unable to re-install your product. VK---" Wait that's not right. Neverwinter Nights 2 is the sequel to Neverwinter Nights. You live in a small town called West Harbor and life is good. But this won't last much longer. Soon the town will be attacked by unknown creature looking for an unknown item. Why are they there? What do they want? O baby, play the game to find out. Wondering why I started a guide this later after the release of the game? I'm more than happy to tell you that. The notebook I intended to play this game on didn't like the game (and vice versa) due to a silly bug that didn't allow me to start the game. Weeks later I found a solution to this problem (no official patch, thanks for the support Bioware) by playing around in the registry. This allowed me to play the game, but the next problem popped up - my notebook would overheat and turn itself off. More weeks passed until I decided to just get a new PC, since I lost the receipt for the notebook (and thus can't send it back to the factory to get it fixed). Meanwhile Stephen Ng of IGN FAQs bothered me every now and then about the guide. So here I am. Christmas eve, writing the guide ;) Old specs: AMD 64 3000+ (1.8Ghz) 512MB RAM Ati Radeon 9700 (shared) New specs: AMD 64 3200+ (2.0Ghz) 1GB RAM Nvidia Geforce 7600GS (256MB) Due to this lag, (talking about lag, World of Warcraft no runs 60fps constantly, even in IronForce!) I will first mainly focus on the walkthrough and finish that. Afterwards, I'll do the writing on classes, skills, feats, items, getting a stronghold etc. etc. But remember, a lot of things are in the manual (which you have, since you own the game - right?). Without further adue, enjoy my guide to Neverwinter Nights 2. ============================================================================== Walkthrough [NW.03.01] ============================================================================== Save often, rest often, buy stuff you need etc. etc. Your basic RPG talk goes right here. The side-quests can be found in the section created for that purpose. I'll refer to that section quite often. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Prologue [NW.03.02] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The game starts as your father greets you as foster[entergender]. So it's not really your father. What a great start for a game, isn't it? It already involves emotional aspects. Not just that, but your father is very lazy and doesn't seem to be able to fetch some furs from a chest. The chest is to the east of you. Open the chest and talk with your father. We need to trade the furs for a bow. He walks off and leaves you alone. We could now run around the house naked without him complaining! Or we could open the door, go outside and be greeted by your two friends. The things you say/do can influence the behavior of your party, reactions of people and your alignment. Keep this in mind as you react to what your friends say to you. You'll attend the fare and have fun either way. As you move close, you'll overhear a conversation between Georg and a farmer. But today is a day of fun, so Georg doesn't care about the farmers and is happy to see you and your friends. He'll explain the basics - in order to win the cup you'll need to win 3 out of 4 events (but we'll win all, since we're that good). Move along the path and talk with Brother Merring. He's responsible for the fighting event. Check the barrel for weapons, then equip them on your party members ('I' for inventory, the rest involves dragging). Attack the Practice Dummy using one of your party members and then talk with Brother Merring again. You'll have to win two rounds in order to win the event. If you lose for some reason (how you did that is beyond me), you can always retry at a later time. After the first fight you need to talk with the Mossfield brothers. They want to gamble about it (even though Brother Merring said it's not allowed). Hey, don't look at me! It's your decision. After the second fight you win the event (if you don't lose, that is). Follow the path to find Retta Starling, who leads the magic event. Amie will do the tricks. Accept the event to end up in the area with the barrel and lots of kids. Press F and use the spells that are requested (summon, enlarge, damage) to win the event. It's all too easy. A man will confront you about a large hog. See section [NW.04.02] for more information regarding that. On the other side of the road where you just won the magic event, you'll find the merchant Galen. Talk with him to let him show his wares. Sell the furs for 153GP and buy the Duskwood Bow for 150G. Remember how I told you Daeghun is a very lazy man? Right next to Galen you'll find him for the Bow event, but he doesn't have time to just walk over there and sell the furs himself? Whatever. Talk with him to start the bow event. Grab a bow from the barrel and hit the practice dummy. Now you can start the real test - shooting bottles. You should have no problem to break all 10 bottles and win the event. A bit further down the road you'll find Tarmas, who seems to be in an extremely good mood. Lucky you. This is the rogue event, but you don't have one in your party. Fear not. Next to the tent is Kipp, who is willing to join your merry party and help you out. The goal is to look for three feathers, hidden around the village. Walk back down the road until you're near the fighting event. There is a log here, but it has a trap on it. Let Kipp disarm the trap for you. Even further down the road is a chest. Unlock it using Kipp to get the second feather. Finally, once again a bit further down the road, you'll find a man with a green coat. Steal the feather from him, and then return to Tarmas to win the event - and thus winning the Harvest Cup. Hooray! Have a chat with Georg and he'll walk towards the stage to give you a victory speech, cloak and Harvest Cup. Follow him for a rather boring speech about how last year things were going really bad, but they are going great now. End of prologue. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Act 1 [NW.03.03] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- West Harbor Under Attack [NW.03.3A] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- You'll wake up because someone is screaming West Harbor is under attack. Luckily you didn't undress before going to sleep, and you can help out straight away. Your two friends will even come to pick you up. Check the chest next to your bed for some goodies. Be sure to equip them, since the game won't do that for you. Leave the room and get ready for your first real fight. Goblins will rush in and try to kill you. Hit them with your rhythm stick, hit them, hit them. Go outside when done. Brother Merring will greet you and tell you to meet up with Georg at the bridge. Go there and help them kill the evil creatures of hell (I don't think they really came from hell, don't worry - it was a joke from my side). Once they are killed, talk with Georg. Georg wants you to rally up some Harbormen and then meet him at the wheat field. As you cross the bridge you'll soon find Lado, who is surrounded by the creatures. Help him out and you just found yourself your first Harborman. Hooray for us! Note all the magic stuff going on a bit further. Go there, and you'll find Tarmas battling a Goblin Mage. Pew pow pow. You can just idle there, and they'll battle on forever. You can also walk towards them for a cinematic. Amie will try to help her master, Tarmas, but will get killed when attacked by the mage. That's what you get from interfering, Amie. The mage will leave and Tarmas will say there's nothing to do, and leave. He tells you to visit his house for supplies if needed (side-quest). Wyl Mossfield will be standing close to the scene, wounded. Since we need all the help we can get, it's best not to slit his throat, but it's up to you. If you decide to help him, walk back to Brother Merring near your house and talk to him about the matter. He'll give you some healing items you can use on the wounded (including your party). Ward will be near and also wounded. Give him some good healing and then head to Wyl, to heal him. That's number 2 and 3. Number 4 is closer to the bridge again. There is someone fighting near the water. Help him out and he'll help you out in return. The final recruit is standing near a house that's near the wheat field. Heal him and then go talk with Georg. It's time to defend the village against a few ambushes. Kill the first wave, and soon enough a second wave will come in. However, some goblins sneak into the Starling house. You can let them do that, or help them out. Whatever you like. Helping them out won't affect the storyline. See the side-quest section for more details on this. After the second wave, just one more wave remains - and you'll get help from some archers. Once this is done, you'll have a chat with Daeghun. He tells you. you must retrieve a shard for him, and you'll have to take the Starling guy with you. The shard is hidden in a ruin in the swamp. Spooky! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Retrieving the Shard [NW.03.3B] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you walk through the swamp, you'll encounter bugs and lizards. Take your time to kill them, until you stumble upon the ruins. Enter them, and you'll be greeted by a cinematic. It seems a mystical woman is watching you. The plot thickens! Inside the ruins you'll encounter, surprise , more lizards. Follow the path till the end and kill anything you encounter. Open the door to end up in a room filled with lizards. With some good talking skills it may be possible to just get the shard and leave. If you don't have a tongue capable of talking smooth, it's time to kick some lizard ass. Either way, get yourself the shard and you'll return to Daeghun. The Starling guy is angry at Daeghun, because he was 'nearly killed' just to get the 'stupid shard'. Whatever. Have a good chat with Daeghun. Your goal is to visit the half-brother of Daeghun in the city of Neverwinter (hey, perhaps it is somehow related to the title of the game?), retrieve the second shard and let it be examined by a mage you both trust. You'll travel alone and may not talk about your mission. To avoid confrontations with the Goblins you'll go to Neverwinter by ship, rather than taking the main road there. Talk with everyone in town and ask if they are willing to give you items to help you. Don't hesitate to ask for more, you'll need it =p Also talk with miss Starling about her husband. This will start a side-quest we will finish much later. When you are ready talk with Daeghun again. Say farewell to West Harbor and step onto the 'World Map Navigation' thing at the end of the road. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Dwarf, A Demon and Plenty of Soldiers [NW.03.3C] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Head to the Inn, by hitting that on your World Map and then hitting 'Travel'. As you get near to the inn, you'll find a dwarf picking a fight with three other guys. You probably want the company of the dwarf in your rather small party, so I suggest to defend him and get rid of the three pieces of thug. The dwarf suggest you enter the inn and have a good drink. When the dwarf is about to tell you something, Goblins rush in and will try to kill you. Get rid of them, and then head to the upper floor. There are more Goblins here that need to be killed. Once you did that, don't forget to loot all the items you have. Also talk with Galen, since he'll be of use a bit later. When everything here is done, head outside the inn and the Dwarf will join your party. Sounds good. But there is not much time to talk, we've got to catch a ship. Move to the World Map and travel to Fort Locke. As you move along the road, you'll encounter Galen with his bodyguards. It seems they have no interest in protecting him, but are more interested in his money. Of course we help poor Galen out (since he's a good merchant). He'll run to Fort Locke, where you'll be able to check his wares. Now head towards the fort yourself, and you'll encounter a few soldiers and a demon girl. Since a rogue is quite nice to have in your party (lots of traps will be encountered in the side-quests you may start) I suggest you help the poor girl out. Plus this will lead to hilarious conversations between the dwarf and the demon later on, since they really don't seem to like each other. Then again, the dwarf turns out to hate pretty much everyone around him next to you. When the soldiers are defeated, enter the fort. Here you can start a few side-quests which are recommended to do (gain experience, gold, items). Remember the talks of Cormick? You'll meet him in the fort. Talk with him about the patrols to start your first side-quest (further details in the section made for side-quests). Liza tells you a group of bandits took some people hostage for ransom and if you agree to help her, you'll start another side-quest. Tor Millows has a quest for you too. Bandits took his Holy Symbol and wants it back. Alright Tor. Start on the side-quests (well you don't have to) and you'll encounter bandits on your way to one of the locations. Pay them, scare them or kill them. Either way get rid of them. Also notice the mysterious woman is watching you once again. When done side-questing, head to Highcliff. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stuck in Highcliff [NW.03.3D] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- When attempting to go to Highcliff, you'll encounter something on your way. I can assure you it isn't going to be nice. Or perhaps it is. More Goblins will ambush you and try to kill you. However, the mysterious woman now shows her true face and helps you to kill the Goblins. She has some explaining to do though. After she did that, she offers to join your party. And since help is always welcome, accept this offer. She knows a faster route to Highcliff, which your party will take. You'll end up in a forest, with wolfs ahead. Even though the druid told you it'd be safe, the animals don't agree and will try to kill you. Kill them instead. Things seem to be wrong. The wolfs shouldn't have attacked, and there aren't any druids around. To gain some influence with Elanee, accept her little quest to look around for what's wrong (not an actual side-quest). Find the enlarged bear and attack it. When it's about to die, it'll reveal it's actually a druid. The Mere isn't doing so great, does it? After you did this little thing, it's time to really go for Highcliff. You'll see a ship sailing away. And not short after, going down into the sea. Out of all the times... Apparently lizards are attacking the ships. And guess who's going to help out? You. Talk with the people at the dock to learn about the treat. They'll direct you to the elder though, so go up the stairs. When you get near the pub, you'll be stopped by a few mean sailors. With good talking skills you may avoid a fight, but count on one if your not that smooth. The elder is near, so have a talk with him. After a small fight with Juni, he has time to talk. Apparently the husband of Juni is missing, but the elder won't help her. The ships are interesting to him though. He'll agree to let you sort things out for him. He suggest to check out the ruins. Alright. Near the gate is Mozah, who has a side-quest for you. Also have a chat with Juni. Par seems to have a problem too. When ready, venture out towards Shandra's Farm. This just involves a talk with Shandra. Ask her about the things that are currently happening. After a while lizards will burn her farm down, and it's time for you to head to the Highcliff Castle Ruins. When you can go off-road to the west, do so if you're interested in a small side-quest. See the section about side-quests for more info. When you get near the entrance to the ruins, you'll meet Slaan. He is a lizard, but he doesn't want to fight you. If you help him free his friends, you'll be allowed to see the chieftain, who's behind the attacks on the ships. This is just your average dungeon, so proceed through it while killing. As you walk past a certain door, a cinematic will trigger. A person who looks just like the wizard you killed before at Fort Locke, is talking to some kind of 'Master of the Fifth Tower' (side-quest trigger, possible). Kill him. A bit further into the ruins you'll find the other lizards. Talk with the sergeant and you'll end up in the hideout of the lizards. Depending on your skills you can make this a friendly 'let's stop fighting' or a violence 'stop fighting' event. Whatever you did, talk to the elder about it and you can finally go to Neverwinter. Finish remaining side-quests by talking to people and then talk with the elder to sail out towards Neverwinter. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Second Shard [NW.03.3D] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- A cinematic will start showing the enemy found a shard. That's too bad, but no reason to panic. Someone will also get killed. It's all very exciting. When arriving in Neverwinter (after some more fighting between the dwarf and the demon), it's time to visit your uncle. Find the inn and talk with Duncan. He has lots of things to tell you, but he is somewhat mysterious about your mother. A mage will show up, but he can't help you to identify the two shards together. You need to head to another mage, but the district he's in, is closed. You can do it the good and evil way - but joining the army, or by joining the thugs. Cormick is the one you want for the army, Caleb for the thugs. Cormick can be found at the Watch post near the Dolphin Bridge, Caleb east along the main road. Depending on your style of playing the game, you'll take different quests. The evil way - coming soon. The good way - Find the City Watch in the Docks District, and enter it. Inside is your good friend Cormick. Join the watch, and wear the special cloak you get. The Harvest cloak started to stink anyway. Time for your first mission as a member of the City Watch. A shopkeeper called Hagen was threatened by some friends of Caleb and requests the Watch to help him out. They were too busy, but since you joined them now, they'll send you this way. Leave the City Watch and find his shop. Enter. Only Reesa can be found inside. She's a spoiled brat, and after some exchange of words, her father - Hagen - will show up and tell her to go home. Now this is a crucial part of the game regarding your alignment. Don't go asking all lawful, when you are neutral. So be a bit mean, kill the thugs that enter and perhaps ask for a reward (no reward means lawful, asking for a reward means chaotic). You can also steal from Hagen. This will give you +1 chaotic and +1 evil. Let's report back to Cormick. Time for a new mission. Caleb is just a pawn in the game Moire is playing, but there has been enough evidence to arrest Caleb. Caleb can be found near the inn, so go have a chat with him. As you can suspect, Caleb doesn't want to be arrested and it'll end up in a fight. Kill him and his little thief buddies. Once again it's time to tell Cormick about it. Another mission! What a surprise, isn't it? You have to check with every City Watch guardpost and report/solve any problem you stumble upon. This is quite fun, but make sure you are prepared for a fight or two. Leave the City Watch, and start be going north. The first guardpost is here. Talk with the sergeant. After some talking, you find out Moire is paying this guardpost. The only thing they need to do, is leave the thugs alone. You may convince him into giving the money to Cormick, otherwise you may have to report him in. Go southwest from here to find the second guardpost. Some thugs are here, trying to convince this guardpost to leave just a bit earlier today. It'll end up with you fighting the thugs. Talk with the sergeant afterwards. Further south is the third guardpost. This'll probably end up you fighting even more. As you pass the inn, you'll find Qara and some people fighting. Take her side, and you'll have yourself a mage in your party any time you want. The fourth guardpost is south of here, near the gate. Talk with them to finish the mission. As you go back to report at the City Watch, you'll notice the building is burning. You are told to speak with Brelaina, at the Merchant Quarter. If you walk that way, and have the demon in your party, some people will attack you because of that. It seems the demon was hiding the fact she took off with quite a lot of money. Now head to the Merchant Quarter and... wait for the next version of my guide. ============================================================================== Side-quests [NW.04.01] ============================================================================== The side-quests are listed in order of 'appearance', not alphabetical. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Prologue [NW.04.02] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Man and his Hog [NW.04.2A] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- After you won the magic event, Orlen will confront you about a really big hog. He says he thinks it's been enchanted. Walk towards the hogs and you'll find Lewy. Amie notices it's been enchanted too. Try to use the Disspell-spell and a conversation will start about moral values. You can either first talk to Lewy about this, or just use the spell and humiliate him. It's up to you. Return to Orlen for your reward (Pork Jerky, 150G). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Act 1 [NW.04.03] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wizard's Arsenal [NW.04.3A] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Visit Tarmar's house, and that's that. [Needs to be confirmed.] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Starling Standoff [NW.04.3B] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just before the second wave of Goblins, some will sneak into the house of the Starling family. Go there and talk with Retta inside. He dogs will help you out. Open the door and kill the Goblins. Problem solved. Go back outside. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Soldier's Story [NW.04.3C] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the prologue, talk with miss Starling about her husband. [More to follow.] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Safer Travels [NW.04.3D] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Talk with Cormick at Fort Locke about the patrols. The new commander is Vallis. Go talk with him. He says he won't allow patrols since it's too dangerous. He also seems to be angry at the previous commander. But he makes you a deal. If you find out what happened to the patrols, he might consider thinking about the whole deal. Pssh. Head to the Graveyard and kill the Zombies and Skeletons around here. Once it's clear and you're healed up, you'll notice three Tombs. One is closed and can't be opened, the two others are to the east and west. The one in the west doesn't have anything quest-related, but it may be a nice way to gain some experience, gold and items. The one in the east is the tomb you need though. Go down into the dungeon. Eventually you'll find a hall with a gate that can't be opened. Find the door that close to end up in another big hall. Here you'll find a wizard. He seems to be interested in you as experimental material. However, you probably aren't interested - that's why I suggest killing him and his Zombie minions. Talk with Tann. He tells he got ambushed by the wizard, and that there are more men down in this cold dark dungeon. Since we are heroic, we will help the poor fellow out. He'll join your party for the moment. Loot the chest and pull the lever to open the gate you saw before. Throughout the dungeon you'll find 3 more soldiers. One is dead, the two others are still alive. Once you found them, return to Fort Locke. Vallis will show up and moan against Tann. Tann doesn't like this, and decides Vallis needs to be hung. Good. Talk with both Tann about the patrols and with Cormick to finish this quest. Cormick will reward you when you see him in Neverwinter. Tann has a new side-quest for you if you're interested, involving killing bandits. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bandit's Ransom [NW.04.3E] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Have a chat with Liza at Fort Locke and agree to help her get the hostages back from the bandits. Head to the Bandit Camp and enter it. Kill the bandits and then walk towards the hostages. As soon as they talked to you, more bandits will show up. Kill them too and escort the hostages to safety. Talk with Liza for your reward. Note: If you have both the dwarf and the demon in your party, a conversation will be triggered upon releasing the hostages. Say nice things to gain influence. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tor's Holy Symbol [NW.04.3F] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tor over at Fort Locke wants his Holy Symbol back, taken by the bandits. Sure thing Tor. At the Band Camp, you'll find a building. Inside the chest is located. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bandit Bounty [NW.04.3G] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tann offers you this side-quest when you helped him to return to the fort. Head over to the Bandit Camp and enter the Bandit House. Find the leader here and talk with him. Either convince him to join the army of Tann, or kill them. Return to Tann for your reward. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- William's Fate [NW.04.3H] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Highcliff, talk with Juni. Her husband is missing and she wants you to find him. At the Highcliff Castle Ruins, go off-road as soon as you can to find William. He's not dead, but just doesn't want to go back to his wife. He asks you to tell her he died. When going back to Juni, it's up to you what you're going to tell her. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mozah's Backpay [NW.04.3I] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Highcliff, talk with Mozah, who's near the exit of town. He sent someone away, but hasn't heard anything ever since. He's worried and wants you to check things out. At the Highcliff Castle Ruins, a cinematic will trigger inside. Kill the enemies here to find the payback. Return this to Mozah and you'll get the money (250GP). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Adventurous Children [NW.04.3J] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- At the Highcliff Castle Ruins, go off-road to the west, as soon as you can. Follow the path and kill the wolves you encounter. At the end you'll find two children. Tell them to go straight home. After you fixed the problem with the lizards, the father will be standing at the dock. Talk with him about this matter. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disturbance at Par's House [NW.04.3K] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Talk with Par at Highcliff.. Something seems to be going on, over at his house. Enter his house and kill the people here. When return you'll get some potions (and experience, obviously). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Skymirror [NW.04.3L] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Between the moment you picked a gang (either you joined Cormick or Caleb), a wolf will be a bit south of the City Watch, between two buildings (near some enemies, in case you didn't kill them yet). With Elanee in your party, talk to it. In order to gain influence with Elenaa, allow her to treat its wounds. When she refers to the shards, admit your shards may be the source of the problem, or you'll lose influence with Elenaa. The wolf sends you towards the Skymirror. Before going there, make sure you have the spells Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace, Barkskin and Owl's Wisdom. If you don't have them, but them from Sand's shop (near the inn) and memorize them (press 'B', then rest). Go to the Skymirror and use the appropriate spells on the trees (the description speaks for itself, just look at the icon of the spell). When done, walk towards the lake. Head back to the fourth tree, and grab a piece of bark. With this in your inventory, return to the lake, and a short conversation will start. When it ends, walk back towards the exit. You'll be attacked by water spirits. Kill them, and make sure you're rested. Up ahead is yet another Shadow Priest, who wants to kill you. Kill him and his minions. ============================================================================== Cheats [NW.05.01] ============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Console Cheats [NW.05.02] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Press ~ and enter the code 'DebugMode 1' (no quotes).
